The Nigerian Association of Foreign Trained Pharmacists, NAFTraPH held its 7th Annual International Conference in Lagos, Nigeria, on Thursday October 9th, 2025.
The epoch-making event themed “Non-communicable Diseases in Post-pandemic World: NIGERIA’S PERSPECTIVE AND HOW TO MITIGATE DISEASES’ RAMIFICATIONS”, had top pharmacists in attendance.
The president, Dr. John C. Ejezie in his address remarked that:
“The conference is not just a meeting, it’s a movement. A gathering of minds and hearts determined to transform healthcare, uplift communities and uphold the dignity of our noble profession.
“Together we are NAFTraPH – Bringing Quality Healthcare to Your Door Step!”
Speaking with Global Affairs Magazine in an exclusive interview, Ejezie explained why the theme; “Non-communicable Diseases in Post-pandemic World: NIGERIA’S PERSPECTIVE AND HOW TO MITIGATE DISEASES’ RAMIFICATIONS” was chosen for this year’s conference.
“Non-communicable diseases have continued to bedevil and when it occurs the resources to intervene are limited.
“Diseases that will otherwise not cure outright could cause higher mobility and mortality. It’s a problem for nations with low income.
“That inspired us to sensitize people through awareness to make them understand the little micro role they can play at their individual level starting from self care to their immediate environment, families and friends.
“Beyond that you reach out to your community through health fares, wellness events and a more global audience through the social media.”
When asked to advise the government on the way forward to achieve best healthcare service in Nigeria he posited thus: “The government knows what to do. Just work with experts. Nigeria has a lot of experts so all I can say is just utilize the experts we have here in Nigeria.”
The keynote Speaker, Dr. Nelson Aluyah, in his presentation titled “Emerging Health Transition in Nigeria: From Communicable to Non-communicable Diseases in a Post-pandemic World, emphasised the benefits of eating the right food to remain healthy. He stressed the importance of eating a lot of vegetables as they are anti-inflammatory.
“Every time you cook your food put a lot of vegetables, the benefits are huge because they reduce inflammation in the walls of the intestines.
“The walls of the intestines do not like inflammation. Once it begins to get inflamed they blot out.”
Similarly, the Conference Chairman Dr. Violet Bumah, hinted that non-communicable diseases are being intensified by stress which can cause other health issues. She prioritised the need for all of us to do our part.
“In the hall today, we have a lot of personalities, Pharmacist, Doctors and all of us need to come together to do our part to move forward.
“Let’s not just listen to all the bright ideas and do nothing with the knowledge.
“I’m hoping that at the end of the conference you will be able to get some roadmaps to continue this process especially as it concerns non-communicable diseases.”
