Stay Connected to God, Be Humble, Showunmi Urges Youths at 70th Birthday

It was a day drenched in gratitude, grace, and golden memories as Mr. Abraham Showunmi, fondly known as Daddy Show, marked his 70th birthday on Tuesday, October 28, 2026, at the Rita Events and Suites, Abule-Egba, Lagos. The celebration drew a warm crowd of family members, friends, associates, and professional colleagues who gathered to honour a man whose life has been a tapestry of faith, mentorship, and service to humanity.

While tributes flowed from all corners, the moment that defined the evening was Daddy Show’s heartfelt address to Nigerian youths — a rich outpouring of wisdom anchored in faith, humility, and the eternal call to live a life pleasing to God.

“God’s mercies are the reason we are alive,” he began, his tone steady yet tender. “He has forgiven our sins and withheld the punishment we deserve. But there is one condition — we must forgive those who offend us.” He reminded young people that divine blessings can only be sustained through a consistent relationship with God. “If God is your source, you must stay connected to Him. Talk to Him daily through prayers. Listen to Him by reading your Bible. Pray as if everything depends on God and work as if everything depends on you,” he said, echoing the words of the late Prophet T.B. Joshua, whose teachings he often referenced.

On humility and gratitude, Daddy Show urged the youth to resist the pride that often comes with success. “Everything you have is by the grace of God,” he said. “Boasting should have no place in your life. Always acknowledge that your blessings come from Him. Whatever God gives you is not just for your own good but for the benefit of others — we are blessed to bless.

”Turning to the subject of mentorship, Daddy Show emphasized that no one achieves greatness alone. “If you must build an incredible life and career, you need a mentor,” he advised. “A mentor is someone with wisdom, knowledge, and experience who is willing to invest in your growth. But you must not wait for a mentor to find you — seek them out respectfully. Show them why you’re worth their time and trust.”

He described mentorship as a “two-way relationship” built on honesty, humility, and accountability. “A good mentee must be sincere, open, and willing to discuss weaknesses. Follow through on advice and report back on your progress,” he counseled, adding that successful mentorship could alter the course of a young person’s destiny.

Drawing parallels between the spiritual and the practical, Daddy Show explained that no one can succeed alone. “Even Jesus needed disciples to fulfill His mission. A teacher needs students, a lawyer needs clients, a doctor needs patients. We are all one another’s strength,” he said. “In life, some people will come to add, subtract, divide, or multiply your value. Pray for the grace to discern who belongs in your journey.”

He lamented the moral decay among some young Nigerians who pursue wealth by any means. “Many of our youths today no longer care about the source of their riches,” he said solemnly. “They want to acquire wealth without process or patience. But the blessings that come from God bring peace; the ones from the devil come with sorrow. Proverbs 10:22 says, ‘The blessings of the Lord make one rich and add no sorrow to it.’”

Quoting from Joshua 1:8, Daddy Show urged the audience to meditate on God’s word “day and night” as a pathway to prosperity and success. “Read your Bible slowly, attentively, and repeatedly,” he said. “That is when God speaks. Then talk to Him through prayers. Meditation on His Word is visitation with Him.”

He ended his speech on a note of divine reflection and human solidarity. “Our relationship with God must reflect in our relationship with people,” he said. “Love your neighbour as yourself. Forgive unconditionally. Be cheerful givers. We are one another’s strength — God created no one to succeed alone.”

As the hall resounded with applause, it was clear that Daddy Show’s message had struck a deep chord — a call to a generation chasing speed over substance to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the timeless virtues of faith, discipline, and love.

For a man who has lived seven decades of faith and fortitude, Daddy Show’s counsel was not mere rhetoric but a distilled wisdom from a life anchored in grace. And for the many young people who listened, his words were more than advice — they were a compass pointing toward purpose, peace, and divine connection.
