Tinubu, Oluremi Receive Ghana’s President-elect Mahama in Abuja

The President-Elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, State House in Abuja on Monday.

According to Vanguard report Mahama, who emerged victorious in Ghana’s recent presidential election with 56 percent of the votes, was warmly received by President Tinubu and First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

His victory was a significant political comeback, defeating the ruling party candidate and Ghana’s current Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, garnered 41 percent of the votes.

Mahama’s win brings an end to eight years of leadership under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Akufo-Addo. Akufo-Addo’s tenure was marred by Ghana’s worst economic challenges in decades, including an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout and a debt default.

The courtesy visit provided an opportunity for the two West African leaders to discuss regional cooperation, bilateral relations, and shared challenges within the sub-region.
